Caulerpa is a popular macroalgae commonly kept in saltwater aquariums. It is characterised by its green leafy blade-like fronds at are attached onto horizontal runners. C. brachypus attaches itself onto surfaces like rock and sand with rhizoids, which resemble roots. This species of macroalgae is popular amongst hobbyists because of its ability to absorb nutrients such as nitrates and phosphates. This natural filter is hardy and has a fast growth rate making it a great addition to all saltwater aquariums and/or refuguims. Macroalgae also provides an ideal habitat for desirable organisms such as copepods and amphipods that in turn act as food for fish and coral.
